Marit Kristine Smedsrud

Marit Kristine Smedsrud, MD, PhD at Oslo University Hospital, Rikshospitalet.

Smedsrud defended her PhD thesis titled "Assessment of incipient global myocardial dysfunction by speckle tracking echocardiography. Clinical studies with emphasis on patients with stable coronary artery disease and patients with chronic aortic regurgitation." in April 2013.
Her supervisor was Center Director Professor Thor Edvardsen, MD, PhD.
The study focused on the identification of patients with viable dysfunctional myocardium with the potential for recovery of function.

A viable dysfunctional myocardium has important implications regarding the selection of patients for myocardial revascularization

Smedsrud's interests are myocardial dysfunction, coronary artery disease, left ventricular function, strain, speckle tracking and echocardiography.

She is currently under specialization to become a pediatric cardiologist.
